Pearson’s Store & Newington Post Office

The Newington train station, called Long Branch Station, was built in 1872, and the Pearson Store, which later housed the Newington Post Office, was built that same year, by the Alexandria and Fredericksburg Railroad Company.

When the train tracks were relocated away from the one-land bridge on Newington Road and Cinder Bed Road, the Pearson’s Store continued to operate for some time; however, it did end up closing. While we do still have a Newington Post Office near to the station site, it is no longer considered a hub of commerce like the Pearson’s store.
